Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus has reaffirmed Bangladesh’s firm stance against terrorism, declaring that there is no place for terrorist activities on the country’s soil. His remarks came during a meeting with the United States Chargé d’Affaires Tracey Ann Jacobson, held on Monday afternoon at the state guesthouse Jamuna in Dhaka.
Yunus emphasized that Bangladesh remains committed to fighting terrorism at all levels and will not allow any militant groups to operate within the country. "Our policy on terrorism is zero tolerance," he stated, adding, "We are making every effort to eliminate terrorists from Bangladeshi territory."
The discussion between the Chief Adviser and Jacobson lasted for around 40 minutes and covered a wide range of issues concerning bilateral interests between Bangladesh and the United States. One of the key topics of the meeting was the ongoing trade negotiations between the two nations.
During the meeting, Jacobson expressed appreciation for Bangladesh’s recent democratic reforms and ongoing transformation efforts. She assured that the United States would continue to support Bangladesh’s progress. "We are optimistic about Bangladesh’s democratic transition and the potential national election expected early next year," she said.
Chief Adviser Yunus also took the opportunity to update the U.S. envoy on the progress of the National Consensus-Building Commission, which has been working toward establishing national unity. He praised the efforts of the commission, highlighting its constructive role in the political landscape. "Under the leadership of Professor Ali Riaz, the commission is doing commendable work. Its members are tirelessly committed to building broad-based consensus," Yunus noted.
