At least eight people were injured as two rival groups clashed in Madaripur over dominance in the area, with around twenty hand bomb explosions reported during the incident that spread panic among residents. The clashes took place in phases from evening until around 8 pm on Friday in the western Rasti area under Rasti Union of Sadar upazila. According to police and local sources, a long-standing dispute over control of the area had been ongoing between two groups in the village, which eventually escalated into violence. On Friday evening, members of both sides confronted each other with locally made weapons, leading to intense clashes. During the confrontation, about twenty hand bombs were detonated, and four residential houses were vandalized. At least eight people from both sides were injured in the violence. Several of the injured were rescued and admitted to the 250-bed district hospital in Madaripur, while one critically injured person was referred to Dhaka for advanced treatment. Others received primary medical care. Police and army personnel rushed to the scene after receiving information and managed to bring the situation under control. Local residents said that clashes between the two groups had occurred before, and tensions in the area had been running high for a long time. Police officials stated that the incident was not related to the election but was the result of a dispute over local dominance. Additional police forces have been deployed in the area to prevent further clashes or any untoward incidents.
