After August 5, labor leader Suman Bhuiya took control of Sadarghat and appointed a team to run his operations, led by launch leaders Zakir Hossain Milon, Sajjad, and Awami League member Nayan. Through them, he initiated systematic extortion from various launches. He brought launch water supply, market supply, fuel supply, street hawkers, and even the launch supervisors under his control.
Soon, the takeover expanded to footpaths and nearby shops around Sadarghat, turning them into tools of his growing power. Suman is now referred to as “Bhuiya Saheb.” He currently serves as the honorary president of several shop owner associations. To keep Israk Saheb satisfied, he strategically places people to collect extortion money, organizes regular processions and meetings, and ensures media coverage to portray himself as a powerful political leader.
Bhuiya Saheb has taken on the responsibility of protecting the businesses of influential Awami League-aligned launch owners such as Kamal, Awlad, and Chairman Iqbal. In return, he has pocketed large sums of money. With this money, under both his name and others, he has bought numerous shops at minimal prices using intimidation, and eventually seized the position of shop owners' association president.
Continuing this trend, he secretly occupied shops around the military barracks and now earns illegal monthly rent from them, acting as if he owns everything. Meanwhile, the public image of the political party is deteriorating sharply, something he shows no concern for. Before August 5, Bhuiya Saheb was living in extreme poverty, often forced to beg for daily groceries — now he rules with money and influence.
