Protest over six-point demand turns chaotic as students clash with law enforcement, forcing evacuation through rear gate
Two advisors and the press secretary to the Chief Advisor were evacuated from Milestone School and College after being confined for nearly eight hours by protesting students. The individuals—Legal Advisor Dr. Asif Nazrul, Education Advisor Dr. C.R. Abrar, and Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam—were escorted out through the campus’s rear gate under tight security, according to Uttara Additional DIG and DC Md. Muhidul Islam, who confirmed the operation to reporters.
The standoff began earlier on Tuesday morning when the advisors visited the school premises for an inspection. Students, voicing a six-point list of demands, surrounded them and prevented their exit. As the hours passed, the protest grew more intense.
At approximately 1:10 PM, additional police forces entered the campus in an effort to defuse the situation and ensure the safety of the confined officials. Their attempt to escort the advisors and press secretary out of the premises only heightened tensions, sparking further anger among the students.
Demonstrators insisted on the immediate withdrawal of police personnel from the campus, viewing their presence as a provocation rather than a protective measure. The situation escalated rapidly, with students reportedly chasing law enforcement officers into administrative buildings.
In response, police launched a counter-action, leading to direct confrontations. Protesters took control of the school’s main gate and attempted to break into the college building. Although faculty members intervened and tried to pacify the students, their efforts failed to bring calm.
Eventually, additional units of police and members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) were deployed to the campus. This show of force led to the removal of students from the grounds, temporarily restoring order. By around 3:30 PM, the advisors, press secretary, and accompanying law enforcement officials exited the campus.
However, roadblocks placed by students forced the delegation to return to the campus shortly afterward. They remained on-site until later in the evening, when authorities finally managed to evacuate them safely through a less conspicuous exit at the rear of the institution.
The event has drawn widespread attention, highlighting both the students’ growing dissatisfaction and the delicate balance between institutional authority and freedom of expression within educational settings. Law enforcement agencies have yet to confirm whether any legal action will be taken regarding the confrontation.
