The caretaker government has finalized 64 District Police Superintendents (SPs) to oversee the upcoming 13th national parliamentary elections. The lottery was held on Monday at the residence of the Chief Adviser, Jamuna, and appointments will follow soon, according to the Ministry of Home Affairs and police sources.
The lottery was attended by Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali, senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, and representatives from the Chief Adviser’s office.
Eligible officers from the 25th, 26th, 27th, and 28th batches were shortlisted, excluding those who previously served as SPs. From this list, 64 officers were selected through a lottery.
The process ensures neutral and qualified officer deployment ahead of elections. The appointments of previously assigned SPs in six districts were suspended last week, pending this lottery. After SP appointments, police station OC postings will also follow a lottery-based selection to maintain impartiality.
Senior police officials confirmed that the lottery aims to prevent controversies and guarantee fair election-time policing at the field level.
